'INVENTING FLIGHT' UNVEILS DETAILED PLANS FOR
JULY 2003 CELEBRATION
DAYTON, Ohio (March 21, 2001)
'Inventing Flight' announced detailed plans today for the 17-day special event celebrating the 100th anniversary of flight. This unique, once-in-a-lifetime centennial tribute in July 2003 will be the signature event of the year for the international aeronautic community.
Deeds Point will be the convening site for the celebration activities. This 12-acre park overlooks the City of Dayton and the Great Miami River.
While a hub of activity will be based at Deeds Point, the celebration will also radiate out to a series of satellite locations and city-wide events, conventions and on-going exhibits happening during the same period that will be included as part of the 'Inventing Flight' experience.
Some of these include Carillon Historical Park's Living Heritage Program and the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, The Dayton Air Show; CityFolk Festival; Black Cultural Festival; The United States Air Force Museum; the National Aviation Hall of Fame and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
"The 'Inventing Flight' experience is created around the Dream of Flight," said Brad Tillson, chairman of Inventing Flight. "The Wright Brothers changed the world with their vision. This event is a celebration, of not only that moment in time, but also a tribute to the ingenuity and imagination that is a part of all innovation. Each pavilion, event, location, and attraction within the property will be developed and designed to take visitors through the process of discovery," added Tillson.
Tillson also introduced two event partners who will work with the Dayton community to make this dream a reality. Entertainment Design Corporation (EDC) will act as the architect for the event, designing the look of the Inventing Flight experience, while MC2 will manage the production of the design concepts as implementation expert.
EDC is a full-service design firm for large-scale entertainment events and locales. As master planners, designers, and producers they can facilitate every aspect of the creation process. Among other credits, EDC will be the principle designer for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
MC2 is a presence marketing agency specializing in the design, production and management of exhibits, events, and electronic media worldwide. Some of their major clients include Lucent Technologies, Sharp, Canon, GNC, Fuji, and Levi's Silver Tab.
